Skills you will learn and refine

  • Manual exposure to beautifully expose difficult lighting situations.
  • Exposure bracketing and post-processing to create realistic HDR images
  • Focus-stacking for deep depth of field landscapes
  • Landscape panorama field and post-processing techniques
  • How to acquire a sharp focus on birds-in-flight
  • How ethically photograph wildlife and minimize disturbing them

My teaching approach focuses not only on how, more importantly, on why.

If you can learn the reasons for using a given technique, you will apply them for years to come — versus memorizing settings.

You will stay in modern and luxurious homes on a private conservation ranch.

The private homes on Trout Stalker Ranch are modern and elegantly decorated.

Enjoy the solitude of the Trout Stalker Ranch in luxury during your workshop

The Trout Stalker Ranch is a conservation ranch rich with wildlife and stunning landscapes.

Photographers will stay in one of the ranch’s elegant, stylish, clean custom guest houses.

These three houses will house 2, 2, and 3 clients, each with luxurious private rooms.

Sleeping arrangements allow each client to have a private room and bath in one of the three guest houses on the ranch.  There is a shared, fully equipped kitchen in each guest house.1

We will eat some of our lunch and dinner meals while touring Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado.  We will also cook some of our meals on the ranch using the well-equipped modern kitchens available.  We will eat breakfast on the ranch after our early morning photography shoots and before our hands-on post-processing classroom sessions.

Staying at the Trout Stalker Ranch is fantastic; each guest house on the ranch is impeccably decorated and custom designed.

Watch this video of ranch owners Dan and Ashlyn Perry’s approach to conservation, appreciation of, and respect for nature.

Trout Stalker Ranch contains expansive riparian wetlands rich with wildlife.  We will photograph wildlife on the ranch and in the surrounding areas.  Blinds will be used in places to provide unique photographic opportunities without disturbing wildlife.

The ranch is situated in the Southern San Juan Mountains, allowing us to photograph the surrounding mountains in their fall colors.
